What Makes A Real ‘Staycation’

Most people plan to go on vacation at least once a year. However, these plans get sidelined for most because of financial limitations. This is where the handy portmanteau of the words ‘stay’ and ‘vacation’ become beneficial as we talk about how you can have the best of both worlds by enjoying a staycation.IMG_0861

A Staycation is a unique experience wherein you get to give yourself the pleasure of having a vacation without travelling to another places. In its strictest terms, it basically means staying at home and enjoying the things you do while on vacation right in your own backyard. The most popular choices can be camping or makeshift activities that replicate things you might do on a vacation but in a budget friendly way near where you live. The point of a staycation is to enjoy your time with the people you would want to normally travel with, but in a budget friendly and expressive way that doesn’t break your budget and also involves new and fun and adventures that you’ve never taken near where you live.

This opens you and your family to a wider range of activities due to the constraints. First, you might want to cook and pack foods that you rarely have on ordinary days, and take everyone to a local park, mountain, forest, waterfall, or interesting spot. Participating in local festivities is also a fun way to have a staycation, which also gives you the opportunity to enjoy the benefits of your community. You might also want to pick a fun project to complete at home who’s sole purpose is to make being at home more fun. This might be building a fire pit, a bird house with your kids, and the most glorious of all….a hammock! Whichever of these activities you decide to do, one thing is sure; you can save big time and have a similar if not better experience right in your own area.

Even if you are just at home or visiting places within your city, remember that you are on vacation. This means you should forget about the things you usually do at home or at work. To put it simply, FORGET THE BS. In order to make your staycation worthwhile, resist the urge to check emails, social media, etc. If possible, do not answer phone calls unless they involve an emergency. Skip your mundane weekend plans of weeding the garden or shopping at the mall and instead, go on an adventure! Plan an itinerary and fill it with fun and exciting activities!
