Get out, go far, walk on! | Staycation Tips

You are probably curious about what could possibly said about going for a walk that you don’t already know. Well, there isn’t much more to say! The best staycation tip is as simple as it sounds…Go for a walk. However, not everyone walks the same, or does the same things when they are on their walk, so let me give you some advice for how to get the most out of your staycation.

Where are you going?IMG_0838

First, figure our where you want to go. Do you want to walk in your general neighbourhood, or closer to the city limits? Do you want to make this a walk through nature, a downtown area, or suburb? It really doesn’t matter where you choose as long as for this exercise you go somewhere entirely new. Now, of course, make sure it is a safe area and that people are allowed to be there. The way to make your walk exciting is to go somewhere where you may have only heard of, or that you think would have interesting things you might want to look at.

When are you going to go?

There are some locations that are best seen at certain times. A walk along the beach might be the most enjoyable at sunrise or sunset for example, or a mid-afternoon stroll through a farmers market that is only available at certain times. Do a bit of research online or by talking to a local person to see what the best time of day to go might be….or just wing it!

What are you going to do?

The purpose of the walk should be to see what arises from your time on the walk, what things you might think of or see. However, if you are like me, you might want to maximize your time. What I like to do is load up a podcast (The GTT Podcast is the best!) or audio book and let that be my background as I walk. You might want to bring a camera and photograph things you see, or bring a notebook so that when a good idea comes your way you can write it down.

What’s the point?

The point is to get out there and experience things in your own area. You are not only getting great exercise, you are also becoming more knowledgeable about different areas so that you can share them with friends and family. The next time someone is looking for an activity but is on a budget, you can give them your recommendation of the best place to take a walk in town, what they should look out for and make sure to see. This has to be the easiest and least expensive way to spend some time. This is why it is our go to staycation tip.
